I think “bedazzled” just made its comback…

April 13, 2011

and Maya Romanoff (the same man who made tie-dye hip) is leading the way. Maya Romanoff has been designing and creating extraordinary surfacing materials for over 50 years. They specialize in uniquely handcrafted wall and surface coverings, utilizing materials ranging from wool to glass, and everything in between.

I first learned of Maya Romanoff during a visit to the Merchandise Mart (or as we lovingly refer to it, the “merch mart”, or simply the “mart”), in the heart of downtown Chicago. The showroom, in the northwest corner on the 6th floor, in suite 6-167, is a true testament to the company. when you first turn the corner, you are greeted a long wall, covered from floor to ceiling in their newest innovation, Beadazzled Flexible Glass Bead Wallcovering®, and the company’s name, in larger-than-life illuminated signage.

This image does not do this justice. 😦

Upon closer viewing, one can see the thousands of tiny glass balls, of varying sizes and shades, that have been hand applied. And Bedazzled will do just that to you, leave you in absolute awe. They have it all over the place; table tops, columns, mirrors, even the lamp shades.

And! It comes in just about every colour and “feel” your little hearts may desire.

Bedazzled Leaf

Seriously, I could stare at this stuff all day for the rest of my life and die happy.

Silver and Gold

New goal for 2011: Order enough samples to fill every wall of my apartment. And the ceiling.

They even do murals! Oh My!

As you can clearly see, I am thoroughly smitten. The more and more I see, the more and more I’m falling in love with wall coverings of all types. Do yourself a favor, next time you’re in town, stop by the Mart and give ’em a visit.

Well, I need to excuse myself and wipe the drool from my face. Ha!

G’ night my starry-eyed lovers

Tis’ the season for nudes and sheers!

April 10, 2011

Spring is upon us! (FINALLY) And summer is just around the corner. I can’t help but daydream of the moment I first step foot onto the sun-warmed sand and soak up its lovely rays!

That being said, I noticed something peculiar the other night. As I was riding the bus home in the evening, I was suddenly away of something quite astounding. All the women around me (and quite a few of the men as well) were donning nudes and sheers! Now before you go assuming the worst, I’m not talking about people sporting their birthday suits (god forbid..).

Before I jump into that, a little history. I have the strangest fascination for beautiful nails. I know. It’s a wee bit odd. It may be due to my own inability to refrain from biting mine (I’m getting better!). But, strange as it may be, I drool with envy every time I see someone with a gorgeous set. (ha ha)

I’ve always been pretty anal when it comes to my own. I’m a die-hard fan of acrylics. Really, it’s borderline obsession. I’m also a hug fan of colour and colours, alike. In high school, I used to paint my nails in various rainbow, stripe and checkerboard patterns. I was quite the notoriety. As I have matured over the years, I have refined my choice of nail polish colours. Most recently, I started using a french manicure neutral polish allover the nail, to give it a nice pearly sheen. And I thought I was being so clever.

But, that fateful night on the bus snapped me from from naivety. Almost every women I saw was sporting the same trend I thought I had started! Woe is me. It’s okay though. I’m happy for them, too. It really is a nice change of pace. Seeing stuff like this all the time can take its toll on one’s psych.

I cant even imagine trying to type with those badboys.

Sure, theyre cute. Until they start leaving sparkles EVERYWHERE.

I see what you did thur.

Okay. Enough of this nonsense! Let’s chill out and get back to basics. Here are some of the things I’m seeing (and emulating.)

I die.

Really guys, this nude polish is awesome. It gives you that “au natural” look (perfect for summer!) and hides any imperfections you might have. And hey! Don’t forget to select a color that works for your skin tone. Me? I’m whiter than the freshly fallen snow (summer, please come sooner). But for those of you blessed with an actually color to your skin, pick a polish that goes with that, usually in a shade that is slightly lighter than your own. And have fun with it! Neutral doesn’t have to be boring! Customize it! Add sparkles, designed, whatever! Just please, don’t go overboard (thereby defeating said purpose of “natural” looking nails). Also recommended, a good ridge filler. These lighter colors won’t hide those annoying little bumps like the darker colors will.

Anywho, it is now 3:18 AM here in Chi-Town, (I know, who blogs on a Saturday night? Well, I’ll tell you. Those who choose to go out Thursday and Friday night. Wooeee) and I need to get some shut eye (aka me staying up another two hours scouring the web for random likes).

Sweet dreams, loves.

Spring is in the air

March 19, 2011

Happy (Late) St. Patrick’s Day! It’s been a such a beautiful weekend thus far (knock on wood-you’ll see why shortly!)

I’ll admit, I have a little case of Spring Fever, it’s so nice outside I just can’t think about getting any work done. Something about the sunlight puts me in such a wonderful mood, basically turning me into quite the little social butterfly. Yet here I am, on a Saturday afternoon, blogging! Me! I promised myself I would see this thing through.

I cannot really call myself a “blogger” just yet though, only 2 posts in (well, 1.5, since I’m still typing this one).  I feel as though my blog is a little bland as-of-yet, it’s all white and gray and I tried unsuccessfully to upload a banner to the title box. I promise I’ll figure this all out eventually. For now, I’ll just keeping telling myself “Less is More!”, but really, I think that “Less is a Bore!”. Okay, enough of my lacking-of-blogging skills. Down to business!

The other day I came across this gorgeous bed, design by the brilliant Joseph Walsh of Joseph Walsh Studio.

Enignum Canopy Bed

The Enignum Canopy Bed is part of his Formations Collection. And what an amazing collection it is!

The whole idea behind the bed is for the user to feel sheltered in a natural environment. It is a collaboration between man and material, the material world and the natural world. It was created through an abstract process of slicing wood into thin layers, and bending it into organic, elastic forms.

Of course, the rest of the collection is equally stunning.

Enignum Table

Enignum Chair

Of the collection, the Irish designer stated, “Through this work, I am seeking to emulate nature’s forms with a timeless presence as though they have evolved like a formation or erosion. The resulting composition of form, material and colour creates a sense of wholeness in each complete work.”

He has several other amazing collections, all done with wood.

Prism Cabinet (Prism Collection)

Figure of 6 chair (Figures & Form Collection)

Alright, I think I’ve spent enough time drooling over these wooded creations, time to get on with the rest of the day’s humdrum tasks. Focus Dany! Focus!

Until next time, sweet patrons!

Have I finally found..the one?

March 13, 2011

Hello there!

First things first, welcome to my humble blog! Here in this charming little blog, I will post things that I have come across and have found interesting enough to document. I have approximately 500+ websites bookmarked already! What an unproductive way to store things! It’s like tossing your beloved wardrobe into mismatched storage bins, er, wait, I’m guilty of having done that as well. 😦 Fear not, darlings! I have found my determination (along with my favorite silk scarves (wrinkled! wretched storage bins!), and I have dusted it off.

Here in this, my beloved blogspot, I will oodle and ooze over my favorite (and perhaps some of my not so favorite) things, whether it be design, art, architecture, fashion, furniture, shoes (!!!), music, pop culture, or my current celeb crush.

Alas, I have tried (and failed) to keep a blog in the past, I tend to do that a lot (start things, and never finish them). But, I have a feeling, is the one.

I often times find myself stumbling through the outer limits of the interwebs searching for new and exciting sources of information, creation, inspiration, and, last but not least, those sneaky little temptations.

Enough of this bullspeigle for now, I must get back to the physical world, and rejoin society for a short time. I shall be back! Promise! And, since this is a blog dedicated to all of my little obsessions, I will leave you with this.

\”Starry Eyed by Ellie Goulding\”

I’m am obsessed with this lovely British pop diva. Enjoy!

Sweet dreams 🙂
